Initiated in 2009, the S&P Global Canadian Oil Sands Dialogue has been bringing together a broad set of stakeholders and provides an independent, objective platform for discussing and delivering balanced information on development tradeoffs, limitations and opportunities. While membership in the forum offers a direct opportunity to learn and participate in the dialogue surrounding the oil sands, it also helps support public research for download. S&P Global retains exclusive rights and responsibility for the content of the reports.

S&P Global reports explore the key issues facing oil sands development. This includes two research reports and one supporting workshop that aims to facilitate a dialogue among key stakeholders to inform our research. Additionally, there are two public blog posts posted annually. Membership provides direct access to our researchers and to detailed oil sands analytics available from our client-only website.

Celina Hwang

Celina contributes to quarterly and monthly Canadian supply outlooks and global crude oil supply and demand balances. Celina's expertise includes prior research and analysis on Canadian gas transmission capacity and market drivers, US tight oil supply and development, and global macroeconomics.She holds an undergraduate degree in economics with a concentration in energy economics from the University of Calgary and is based in Calgary.

Kevin Birn

Kevin is based in Calgary and is responsible for the Centre of Emission Excellence within S&P Global Commodity Insights. The Centre is responsible for accelerating Commodity Insights emissions quantification capabilities by helping to identify and inform strategic priorities, ensuring consistency in emission estimation across business lines, and providing technical support and guidance to development of new models, methods and tools in the estimation of GHG emissions across energy value chains.Kevin has over a decade of experience engaging in and advising governments, companies and industry on emission accounting estimation as well as decarbonization strategies. He is also an established thought leader on the Canadian oil market and serves as the Chief Analyst for the Canadian Oil Market.Kevin is currently a fellow at the Canadian Global Affair Institute, a member of the Outreach & Engagement Committee at Emissions Reduction Alberta, and a member of the executive committee with the Global Energy Show. He holds an undergraduate degree in business and a graduate degree in economics from the University of Alberta.
