In this supplementary report, the following processes have been revised in design, specifically in the following features:
- Diaphragm cell process for salt electrolysis--using metal anodes.
- Mercury cell process for salt electrolysis--use of metal anodes, and with recovery of mercury.
- The process for recovery of chlorine from hydrogen chloride using nitrogen oxides as catalyst--change of reaction conditions, and use of a better heat recovery system.
- The modified Solvay process with recovery of ammonium chloride--change of crystallizer design.
- The process for recovery of chlorine from ammonium chloride--substantial increases of size of reactors, and change of solvent.
Other processes (electrolysis of hydrochloric acid; oxidation of hydrogen chloride with heterogeneous catalyst; electrolysis and carbonation; Solvay process integrated with electrolysis) are only briefly revised and updated in cost.
